Russian serial killer kills 49, claims to have killed 62, missing his goal of 64

The BBC has a story about Alexander Pichushkin, who will be prosecuted for 49 murders. He claims that he actually killed 62 people but their isn’t enough evidence to prosecute him for all 62 murders. He apparently was trying to kill 64 people because there are 64 squares on a chessboard.
